November 26 – Coca-Cola Beverages Africa Mozambique is sharpening the safety skills of its drivers as the holiday season approaches as part of an educational and awareness campaign for drivers and pedestrians carried out by the Ministry of Interior’s transit department.
CCBA employees will attend a road safety presentation at the company’s Matola Gare Plant on November 29.
“The health and safety of our employees, contractors, visitors, and the communities in which we operate remains our highest priority,” said Public Affairs, Communication and Sustainability Director Aurelio Chiziane
“While we have made significant progress in increasing the skills of our drivers over the years, we have scope to do more and strive for continuous improvement. After all, we can never be too safe.”
According to the World Health Organisation, road accidents cost Mozambique an average 10.4% of gross national product (GDP) each year.
The National Institute of Statistics (INE) report on Traffic Accident Statistics 2020 showed an increase in road accidents last year, with a total of at least 2 504 people killed on Mozambique’s roads.
Zambézia province had the highest ratio of deaths from road accidents, with 571 deaths per 100,000 inhabitants.
Nampula had the second highest ratio, at 536 deaths per 100 000, while Tete and Manica had the lowest fatality rate, with 197 deaths and 272 deaths per 100 000 respectively.
The health and safety of our employees, contractors, visitors, and the communities in which we operate remains our highest priority. To this end, we will continue to use training as a critical enabler towards the realisation of zero accidents both within our organisation and beyond our walls.
As we live the CCBA values at work, at home and on the road, let us also continue to take ownership of our actions and how we conduct ourselves on the road. We must commit to work together to observe all health and safety regulations, procedures and follow all instructions. Acting responsibly will save yours and other road users’ lives.
