Coca-Cola bottler celebrates 30 years in Mozambique

Maputo This year, Coca-Cola SABCO Mozambique (CCSM) is proudly celebrating three decades in Mozambique.

CCSM, a subsidiary of Coca-Cola Beverages Africa (CCBA), commenced operations at its first factory on 25 May 1994 in Machava, Maputo province. This marked the beginning of Coca-Cola production in Mozambique.

Over the last 30 years, the bottling company has established itself as a leader in Mozambique’s soft drinks industry, supplying products that are widely consumed throughout the country.

Since its inception, operations have expanded, including the establishment of new PET production lines in Chimoio in 1997 and Nampula in 2001. In 2016, a world-class bottling facility was opened in Matola Gare, near Maputo. The plant was built over three years at a cost of USD130 million. More recently, in 2022, an investment of USD14 million was made in a new PET plastic bottle production line at the Nampula plant.

CCSM began operations with just 55 workers and its growth has resulted in this number increasing to 922 people directly employed by the end of 2023.

These investments have not only strengthened CCBA’s presence in Mozambique, but have also contributed to the country’s economic and social development.

“The celebration of our 30th anniversary in Mozambique highlights our ongoing commitment to the country and its socio-economic development,” said Duncan Wyness, General Manager of Coca-Cola Beverages Africa in Mozambique.

“Furthermore, we are committed to building economic inclusion and sustainability solutions that benefit our stakeholders, in particular, the communities in which we are invested,” Wyness concluded.
